The Asus Eee pc 901 is the latest in the Asus line of netbooks. It is part of a family of Asus laptops that include three screen sizes and a variety of options. The Asus 901 is the 8.9-inch widescreen member of the family. The display is large enough to enjoy a movie or work on a document and has an LED backlight for those low-light situations. It comes standard with Windows XP but can also be configured with GNU Linux if you prefer a Linux operating system. Both of these are supported by an incredibly powerful Intel Atom N270 processor. This processor was designed specifically for netbooks and delivers amazing processing power with the one of the lowest power requirements of any chipset.

The Asus Eee 901 comes standard with 1GB of DDR2 memory installed. Depending on the operating system you choose, you will either have a Flash-based SSD disk of 12GB for Windows XP or 20GB for the Linux version. Both of these provide plenty of space for your applications and content and can be expanded further with an external USB drive if needed.

The keyboard is a good size for a netbook and provides comfortable typing even for extended periods of time. It is also configured with a generous mouse-pad and standard left / right mouse buttons as well. The Asus Eee 901 provides a lot of external connections as well. It comes equipped with three high-speed USB connections that are both 2.0 and 1.1 compatible and allow you to connect up a wide universe of external peripherals such as keyboards, printers, storage and other USB compatible devices. There is also an RJ-45 connector located on the Asus netbook to enable you to connect up to a local hardwired network if you are using the unit in an office. Finally there is a standard external monitor connector on the Asus 901 to let you take advantage of connecting a larger monitor to the Asus Eee 901 if you are working at a desk.

The Asus Eee pc 901 also comes with several wireless connections as well that are included with the netbook. These start with an 802.11 b/g/n connection that you can use anywhere there is Wifi available. Having all three of the standards included means it will be easy for you to connect when you are within Wifi range. The Asus Eee pc 901 also includes a Bluetooth connection as well. This Bluetooth connection allows you to use other peripherals that are Bluetooth compatible like printers or stereo headphones and expand your external devices even further.

The Asus netbook includes a 6-cell Lithium Ion battery for extended use. The battery will give you 7.2 hours of operation for Linux and 8 hours of operation when configured for Windows XP. This battery is easily removable and you can carry a spare if needed for those longer trips. Finally the Asus 901 has an internal webcam that is built into the display. This webcam is a 1.3 M pixel version and does a great job of capturing video. Considering the list of features included in the Asus 901, its no wonder it has such a loyal following of fans.
