The new PlayStation Network cards, which will allow users to add funds at selected high street retailers to use on the PlayStation store, have now been confirmed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe to have been shipped to retail stores throughout the UK and will make it even easier to gain access to downloadable content (DLC) for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
As a fast and simple method of adding credit to the PlayStation Network wallet the PlayStation Network cards will be launched in values of either £20 or £50. Users will now be able to get content for their PlayStation portable and PlayStation 3 without needing to rely on their credit card by merely purchasing a PlayStation Network card and entering the twelve digit code.
Funds for PlayStation Home and SingStar’s SingStore can be obtained through the PlayStation Network cards and although there has been no mention as to whether users will be able to redeem the funds of the cards on the Rock Band Unplugged for the PSP or the Rock Band Music Store on the PlayStation 3 it is unlikely that it would not be included in the PlayStation Network cards funds.
Although there is limited information as to which retailers will be supplying the PlayStation Network cards but Sony have advised that these cards which will come in a choice of £20 or £50 denominations and will be “widely available from many retailers.”
The release of the new PlayStation network cards will be an effort by Sony to compete with the Microsoft Xbox 360, which has been offering its users a variety of different ways to buy its Microsoft points that can be used in its Microsoft Live stores, and will hopefully get more people buying from the Sony PlayStation store.
